Would global 48 groups even work?

I orignally wanted this to be part of my Taiwan48 post, but this post was way too long to be included. So, here we are a whole new post dedicated to the possibility of other global 48 groups. XD

It seems a majority of fans have been responding negatively to the idea of foreign 48 groups since day one. But I have been absolutely excited. Despite not being a fan of AKB48 2 years ago, I was all for the idea of World48 when I heard about it. Since I am a Japanese music fan, I was thrilled about anything that would spread Japanese music and/or style around the world. Especially if it might happen here in the US.

Most fans have been shooting down the possibility of a global franchise for 3 reasons. (You know I have to overanalyze this and write more in more depth about this because I'm such a nerd.) Also, This is an EXTREMELY long post. So, stop reading if you don't feel like reading for a good 10 minutes give or take.

The first reason being they won't like it because they prefer things that are Japanese. Now, before I start my explanation of this let me say that I DO NOT personally know fans like this. But after years of reading forums, blogs, youtube comments, and having actual conversations, I assure you these types of fans DO exist. Please don't take offense in this. I am not suggesting that the people who read this blog or are reading this blog now are like this. There, was that warning PC enough? XD

They would much prefer if Japanese music was a sub culture. Having the music spread would completely defeat the purpose. That way if they are the only person who  knows about the ultra cool Japabese things can they feel superior. Which deals with the whole elitism in the Japanese music community. And don't tell me it doesn't exist. Try joining a Jrock LJ community or Jrock forum (which is how I found out) and see how elitist the Jrock fandom is. I had a friend who literally looked down on me because I didn't know absolutely everything about anime and anime music, and she did so that made her so much better than me. Which, I might add I wasn't even that into. I liked Japanese music not JUST anime music. Which she only liked anime music. I will never forget the first thing I said to her. "You like Japanese music?! Do you like Morning Musume," she responded she didn't know who they were so I almost angrily said, "How can you like Japanese music and not know who Morning Musume are?!" Ah, good times. XD
Also, I have heard fans who literally do not want their Japanese or Asian singers known worldwide. I have no idea why. I guess they treat it as something precious and amazing, that only they like. And if the whole world suddenly learned about it would lose all it's appeal. Which would makes those fans elites, who only like it too feel superior and trendy.

The other reason is only liking Japanese things because they are Japanese. The absolutely first second I started liking Japanese music I was labeled a weebo and a Japanophile. That I liked absolutely ANYTHING just because it was Japanese. Regardless of how terrible it actually was. One of my sister's friends even called me an Egg. Which made me completely angry! Which was never true for me. I still listen to American music. I do not wish I was Japanese nor do I wish I lived in Japan. I am 100% happy being American. I am completely consumed in everything American and can't imagine living anywhere else. But a vast majority of Japanese fans are like that. How do I know? Practically every friend I ever made friends with because they liked Japanese music also, where straight up Japanophiles. Case and point, I was at Japanese restaurant. Where my friends go to ALL the time. My and my friends literally go there like 2 or 3 times a week, I might add. It was my first time there and first time eating Japanese food. But, I knew I wouldn't like it. I don't like rice, fish, beans, or most vegetables, so it was pretty obvious. I tried some of my friends miso soup because there was no way I was going to buy something I most likely wasn't going to like. So, I had a spoonful. And no offence to anyone, it was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. And I will never forget her response. "I knew you weren't going to like it. Miso soup is an acquired taste." And of course my response was. "There's no such thing as an acquired taste. That just means you're forcing yourself to like it because it's Japanese" Which she completely was. (This was also anime girl btw. XD) And this has to be why a lot of fans WILL NOT accept international 48 groups. And as hard as it is for people to accept that, this is a much bigger reason that people do or want to realize. There are people out there who only like Japanese things. Only eat Japanese food. Only listen to Japanese music. Only wear Japanese like clothes. And think Japan is the best country in the world. Believe me they exist, I know a few. Thankfully not to such and obsessive annoying degree, but they are like that. So, with that mind set, the global 48 groups would, no matter what, automatically be worse than the Japanese one. It would be a horrible rip off that should never exist, because it's very existence is brining down the original Japanese one. Which is absolutely ludicrous!

The second reason of course being, that 48 groups would never last in the west. Of course that out come is possible. But honestly, with the right producing and promotion anything could happen. Yes, Japanese idol culture does not exist in any shape or form in the US. It's closest equivalent, Dinsey artists, aren't anything near what an idol is. But obvious if the music was altered from idol music, and transformed into what is popular in that country they'd have a real shot. Such as the US would have a hip hop, autotuned, sexy, vibe. Where as a country in Europe would have a more techno infused dance song.
But not even that, there are some US artists that are making essentially cutesy "idol" music. Katy Perry released the relatively cute sounding song, California Gurls, with an even cuter youthful almost idol looking music video. And a song like Teenage Dream with lyrics about teenage love, that lyrically sounds like something AKB48 would release. Yet, she's a legit artist. How about Taylor Swift? Despite being 20 her music is mostly poorly written songs geared toward teenage girls. I mean, try and tell me You Belong With Me, Fifteen, and Love Story aren't written like and for a fourteen year old girl. And how about the Jonas Brothers? Yes, they are disney stars, but they were still able to break away from that a bit. But listen to songs like Hello Beautiful, Got Me Going Crazy, Infatuation, Lovebug, Pushing Me Away don't sound like they could be JE songs? I mean lyrically they are the same caliber that Johnny's songs are. And if you can't see that, you're obviously really biased. The Jonas Brother's idol-esque lyrics are the main reason I got into them in the first place.

Another reason people think they might fail is because of the whole school girl uniform type outfits. Which is completely true in a sense. I don't know about any other country, but here in the US school uniforms aren't really that common. In the US only catholic schools and prep schools wear uniforms. So that's only about half the country, if not less. In Japan they are a big deal socially since every student in every school wears uniforms. But any outfit could become accepted. Remember Gwen Stefani's whole Harajuku Girls phase? That was weird and Japanese but accepted. And if people accept Lady Gaga wearing dresses made out of meat and condoms, I think school uniforms could become accepted. It could also become a fashion trend. If military, navy, and freaking beige can be popular trends in fashion now, why can't school girl outfits? However, since it is the US the only way school girl outfits would fly is if they were sexy or at least a little bit flirty. Remember a few months back when that Mexican group used the music for AKB48's Beginner? Remember how sexy and revealing their outfits were? Yeah, that's almost what USA48 would look like.

The 3rd reason obviously being they are teenage girls. 48 groups, minus SDN48, are teenage girls, and regardless of the country they would stay teenage girls. It might fly in Japan for teenage girls too dances around in bikinis, run around in lingerie, take photo shoots wearing bra and panties, and sometimes singing about having sex with adult, it definitely won't fly in the US. People would be up in arms in no time. Looking sexually at anyone under the age of 18 is extremely frowned upon. And AKB48's whole appeal is sexualizing their school girl image, which would not be allowed to be done. Do you remember how much heat Miley Cyrus got for pole dancing at the Teen Choice Awards when she did? For USA48 to even be allowed to happen it would have to be completely reformatted, or it would have to be based off of SDN48 instead of AKB48.

Even though global 48 groups would have to be intricately designed to appeal to their specific country, I actually think they could in fact be popular. But much like any artist or group, it's all about selling it correctly. And I can see things like janken tournaments and senbatsu elections being really popular. As well as the idols you can meet concept being a huge fan favorite. And who knows, if all goes well we could see sister groups. Such as NYC48, LSA48, ATL48, CGO48, etc.

Aki-P announces Taiwan48

A few years ago AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi voiced his interest about spreading the AKB48 franchise globally, referring to it simply as World48. It seems that Aki-P has kept to his world about making that happening by announcing the first international 48 group, Taiwan48. They are still working on a name for the group, so expect the name to change in a couple of months. Though, you should totally expect it to be something along the lines of TWN48. XD

The groups has already started to be created and the process will be documented through a TV show starting this summer.

Aki-P said that he might consider making the 48 groups international. (Can we really use the word consider when he's announced something like World48 before?) He said countries like Singapore, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and Russia are possible locations for 48 groups. Also, I read in an article a few years ago that Italy and the United States were possible locations as well. But perhaps he was naming ones that are possible as of today. But who knows really.

Personally I'm excited for this. I think AKB48 is all kinds of awesome, so why not expand it further into Asia? Especially when AKB48 is so popular. As they say, strike while the iron is hot. I'm looking forward to this because I like Chinese music. I listen to a lot of Asian music. I'm curious to see what kind of music they will release.

I spot Kusano!

As some of you may know I am completely a Kusano creeper. Mostly because I miss him in NEWS, both his face and voice. And he should have never been kicked out in the first place. I've seen the pictures, it's obviously soda! And of course my utter resentment for Uchi who actually did drink underage, but is nonchalantly in JE activities while Kusano does nothing. :/

And for that reason I like to keep updated on what Kusano is up to. Such as that modeling he did for that random store nearly a year ago! But since Kusano does virtually nothing, keeping updated on him involves creepily searching for tabloid pictures he's in. Where he usually has a black bar or pixilation over his eyes or face, which is completely frustrating.

So, when I saw DBSK's/TVXQ's JYJ's Jaejoong took a picture of his friends I honestly didn't care much. That is until I took a closer look. Beyond the always sexy Yamapi and Shirota Yuu, there's Kusano!

I'm sure a lot of people overlooked him because he's looking at the ground. But it's completely him. You can so tell it's him by the side of his face, and how that's the hairstyle he has a few years ago.

I am extremely sad that Johnny still owns his soul, and god forbid he ever show his shamefull face. I mean seriously, it's a picture with his friends and he has to bend forward. Will the insanity never end? XD Though, I am happy that he's back to a hairstyle where he actually looks attractive. I hated him with long hair.

But whatever, since Kusano is doing nothing I'll settle for some side face. You have no idea how excited I am over his side face. That's so sad. XD

Morning Musume-Maji Desu ka Ska short preview

The radio show Young Town played the short version of Morning Musume's Musume's upcoming single Maji Desu ka Ska. And when I say short, I mean short. This radio rip is only about 40 seconds longer than the preview we heard the 9th gen singing on Bijou Gaku.

I gotta say I am extremely excited for this single. In the extra 40-50 seconds we get to hear more of the beginning of the song as well as the rest of Morning Musume's solo lines.
The random talking in the beginning makes be think of SNSD's Tell Me Your Wish. XD And when the music kicks in it has an extremely similar feel to Guru Guru Jump. I know I said that already, but you can really hear it here. The members are singing pretty much exactly like I knew they would. Except Ai-chan doesn't have her full on cutesy voice like I was expecting. And Aika's voice sounds like I've never heard it before. I literally thought it was another Reina solo line. I legit though, "WTF is this? Everyone else gets a solo lines, but not Aika?" It wasn't until the 2nd listen that I realized it was her. XD But I'm so excited by how youthful the 9th gen makes this single!

SDN48-Ai Juseyo PV preview

AKB48's adult themed sister group, SDN48, announced they will be releasing a new single on March 23rd entitled Ai Juseyo. Technically since the title is written in kanji and katakana the propber romaji of it is Ai Chuseyo. But I refuse to call it that when I know it's the Korean word Juseyo. Just like it's Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game and not Onna to Otoko no RARABI GEEMU.

But anyway, recently SDN48 released a PV preview for their upcoming single.

Now, I'm not really into SND48. Mostly because I'm not into girls, so their whole sexy image doesn't appeal to me. I prefer my idols bubbly and bouncing off the walls with energy. But I really did love their debut single GAGAGA. So, if that song won me over I just had to watch this PV preview to see what the song was like. The PV, so far, is kind of a disappointment. The only thing going on is SDN48 is dancing in skimpy red outfits, and more wholesome white dresses, against a boring nearly solid white background. Their is also a bubble bath scene. Which is a repeat of the two Matsuis bath scene in the Heavy Rotation PV. I'm not really all that impressed by the song either. I understand that they are an adult group. But if they are always going to sing in their sexy/sultry voices it's going to get really boring really fast. You'd don't always have to sing like that to be sexy. And also those high notes were pretty painful to listen to. XD

But don't let my opinion stop you from loving the song. You can of course purchase it from CDJapan by clicking the links below.

I have not yet been unimpressed with Not Yet

Even though the PV preview for Not Yet's debut single was just released a few days ago, the PV is already out. Which is obnoxiously fast. I've actually been waiting for a decent quality version of the PV to be uploaded anywhere. Which it hasn't. So, I'm left with less than perfect quality. Sorry in advance for the quality of the caps.

The PV is extremely simple. I mean this PV is exactly like the PVs H!P makes. But I hear many AKB48 fans complaining. I know that I don't mind in the very least. You can have a low budget and still make an awesome PV. I think this PV did just that. This PV is so adorable and in such high spirits that I just love it! I just love every minute of it. The PV is vivid, super energetic, and completely engaging. Yes, it is the typical H!P close-up and dance shot format. Actually there are hardly any close-up shots. But I could honestly care less. The dance is amazing, I don't mind watching it for nearly 5 minutes. I don't even mind that the PV reminds me of a lot of other idol PVs.

The set is cute, but it reminds me of a lot of other idol sets.

The colorful blocks remind me of Buono's Our Song PV. Keep in mind I said reminds. Because the backgrounds aren't that similar. It's just the first thing that popped in my head. Well actually an LM.C PV popped in my head first. But this is an idol blog, not a Jrock blog. XD

It also has the puffy material from Morning Musume's Onna to Otoko Lullaby Game PV.

And more recently C-ute's Kiss Me Aishiteru PV. XD

These outfits are a little weird, but at the same time incredibly adorable.

Of course the cheerleader dancers remind me of another PV too. XD

And that PV is Buono's Bravo Bravo.

I can't get over how energetic the dance is.

Yuko is really pretty.

I really need to follow AKB48 better. Since Yui was recently added I didn't even know she was a member of AKB48. XD

I'm sorry but this whole body wave move is so 1980's.

I never really noticed Rino before, but she's a realy stand out. She's gorgeous.

I really love this dance.

But sometimes it reminds me too much of Hey! Say! JUMP's Time dance.

Adorable!

All eyes on me, in the center of the ring.

Super cute.

What's with the Tokkaiko Junjou chest popping?

I really need to stop pointing out similarities. O_O

I think I'm in love. *O*

9th gen Momusu sings Maji Desu ka Ska on Bijou Gaku

Yesterday's episode of Bijou Gaku aired a segment that showed the 9th practicing and recording their lines for Morning Musume's upcoming single Maji Desu ka Ska.

I am extremely happy that everything I hoped for when the 9th gen joined is happening. Morning Musume is finally releasing happy and upbeat music. Morning Musume's so called emo era has finally ended. Which is bittersweet because Koharu was have totally owned at songs like this. :/

First, let me start off by saying how impressed I am with the 9th gen. The girls have only been training for a month, and still sound great. Granted, both Mizuki and Riho have had years of vocal and dance training, so they don't really count too much. And my girl Zukki completely owned it! Despite her being the worst singer in the batch, she actually sounds the best out of the 9th gen. It's her cuteness, charisma, and energy overflowing in the song.

I have to say I am absolutely in love with this song. It's energetic, happy, upbeat, and adorable. This song to me sounds like the album songs from Morning Musume's 9th and 10th albums. Which I am completely thrilled about. I always whined that one of those type of songs should be used as an A-side, and now it is. This song honestly sounds like/has the overall feel of Morning Musume's Koko ni Iruzee, Guru Guru Jump, and Genki Pika Pika, and S/mileage's Otona ni Narutte Muzukashii.

Some fans are saying this song isn't strong enough to be an A-side, but I don't think they can judge that until the full radio rip is out. I mean, the chorus isn't even all of Morning Musume. If you listen closely it's just the 9th gens voices, and I doubt only the 9th gen will sing the chorus of the song. I will completely judge the song when I hear all of the members in the song. I am excited to hear what they'll sound like. I'm hoping Risa brings her cuteness from Athena & Robikerottsu, I hope Sayumi brings her adorableness from Rainbow Pink, and I hope Aika uses her Guardians 4 voice. I've never heard Reina's voice sound remotely cutesy, so I hope she at least tries to sound cute. But I'm dreading Ai-chan's voice. I know she's going to put on that horrible voice she uses when she tries to sound cute. You know the one. The one she uses's when she sings Shainimuni Paradise, and the 2009 version of Suki na Senpai, and when she was in Mini Moni.

The one thing I am worried about it, it seems like these are the only lines the 9th gen get. At first I thought we were only hearing these solo lines and the chorus to tease fans and only give them a snippet of the song. But there's also another possibility that these are their only lines. Because when you are recording a song you only record your lines, bottom line. And you only record the chorus once. Even if the chorus is repeated 8 times, they take your one chorus section and paste it 8 times. Of course unless there are 2 different choruses or the last chorus has a higher ending or something. Then you would only have one copy and pasted chorus. (I wish I knew actual editing terms, because I'm sure it's not copy and paste.) Of course, I could also just be over analyzing this, as I often tend to do.

Here's the Bijou Gaku clip if you want to watch the whole thing.

But if you'd just prefer to hear the song, here's the a clip of just the song.

Not Yet-Shuumatsu Not Yet PV preview

A PV preview has just been released for AKB48 sub-group Not Yet's debut single Shuumatsu Not Yet. Which is funny because I just said in another post how I hope they release a radio rip so I can make a post about the song. XD

When I first saw the picture of Not Yet a month ago I was expecting this awesome, gritty, rock inspired group. Instead we have this laid back and refreshing group. Which isn't a bad thing, I was just not expecting it. The song itself isn't really anything spectacular. It's an ok song, with a mediocre soft beat. But I became a lot more interested in the group by watching the song performed. I thought the dance was both adorable and exciting to watch. I found the performance itself to be very entertaining. I had a goofy smile on my face throughout it. And since then I've been patiently waiting to see what the PV would look like.

And now, the preview is finally out. The preview is extremely short, lasting only about 30 seconds. And the entire time the PV preview consists of Not Yet dancing in 2 extremely odd outfits. The first makes them look like they are a squadron of super heroes. And the second one has like a circus theme, but looks like a standard idol concert outfit.
Despite the PV being nothing but a dance shot, I'm actually really entertained by it. It just looks so cheerful and happy. Maybe it's the extremely bright background, or maybe it's the adorable dance. But whatever it is, there's something I love about this PV and group. The set of the PV reminds me of like 3 different PVs jumbled together. But that doesn't really bother me. But for me the highlight of the preview was Yuko's short dance solo, mostly because it reminds me of her awesome dance solo from Heavy Rotation.

All in all I am actually really looking forward to the full PV.

Here's the PV preview.

And if you have yet to hear the song, here's them performing half of it. The song starts at 2:07.

Also, you can buy the single from CDJapan by clicking the links below.

NYC-Yume Tamago PV preview

A PV preview of NYC's upcoming 3rd single, Yume Tamago, was released during morning news show Zoom In.

Since this song is being used for an anime movie for kids the PV is extremely cutesy and childish. But NYC always releases PVs where I feel slightly embarrassed watching it. But NYC does look incredibly adorable in the PV. Even Chinen how I'm usually too annoyed by to even notice. That fact is really enough to make the PV watchable.

In the close ups NYC seems to be standing in front of a backdrop that looks like children's drawings. Of course to add to the kid theme of the PV. But most of the PV is miniaturized NYC running around kitchen counters. Which is extremely cute, but it reminds me too much of the video Morning Musume made of Koi no Dance Site on their Odore Morning Curry tour DVD. And also randomly NYC is dressed up as a baseball player, soccer player, pilot, and conductor. Which it's cute since it's for the dream aspect of the song and PV.

After hearing the song and knowing it's for children this is pretty much what I was expecting the PV to be like. If you just accept that the PV has to be childish, it's actually a really cute PV. And there's a lot of different scenes and a lot going on in the PV. And quite honestly, I'd rather sit through a childish PV than a boring one.

AKB48 to release first album this April!

Now, it might sound stupid but I was under the impression that AKB48 already released albums. I guess stage albums and their greatest hits albums don't count. Who knew? XD
This is extremely exciting news for AKB48 fans. Personally I am looking forward to hearing the songs. AKB48 always releases good songs, so I can't wait to hear what types of songs are on the album.

But I also have to wonder how the album is going to work. AKB48 is an insanely huge group, so how are they going to decide who sings when? It's not like singles were they can do a janken tournament or hold senbatsu elections. It's also not a stage where they are already in their teams. So, how exactly is this going to work. If they split the songs into already existing teams or sub-groups, how is that different or exciting? I don't know about you but if I wanted to see them in their predictable teams, I'd watch one of their stages. But I'm afraid that, that's what's going to happen. But if AKB48 is going to continue to stay on the top they are going to have to constantly be creative and different. Granted, albums do sell less than albums do. But since it's AKB48 this album is sure to sell a million copies at least. I have extremely high hopes and expectations for this album. I hope I'm not let down.

As always you can purchase the album from CDJapan by clicking the links below. But I suggest you hurry. No doubt that the Limited Edition will sell out quickly.

Akanishi Jin-Eternal PV preview

With just 8 days until the release of Akanishi Jin's first solo single, Eternal, we finally have a preview of the PV.

Under whelmed isn't a strong enough word to describe this PV preview. There is nothing, absolutely nothing going on in this PV. It feels like Ultimate Wheels all over again. The PV preview consists of nothing but Jin standing with his hood up singing in front of a sepia colored clouded backdrop. I know the song is a ballad, but that's not really an excuse for how boring this PV is. This is a beautiful love song, they could have done something with the PV. Where's Jin pretending to play the piano while singing it? Where's Jin laying in bed with the girl he wants to be with forever? Where's any form of a storyline? And we can't even blame JE for this one, as he's signed to Warner and they take care of the PV budget now. But I'm sure the PV is only this simple because he must be incredibly busy working on his American album, while at the same time promoting a single in Japan. That might be the case, but it doesn't make me less disappointed by the simplicity of the PV.

no3b are less than works of art

The PV for no3b's 6th single Answer was just released.

I have to say I am pretty disappointed by the PV. Besides a scene or two, the PV is exactly the same as what we saw the preview. I was hoping when the full PV was released there would be more of a story line then we saw in the preview. But sadly that's not the case. And because of that the PV is absolutely boring with hardly anything happening. There's pretty much only 4 different scenes to the entire PV. White outfits and spinning, black outfits and spinning, dance scenes, and picture frame scenes. I feel so uninspired by it. :/

When I first saw this this mean the PV was going to have a cool storyline of them stuck in the frames or something.

Unnecessary intense mouth close up.
So maybe they are trapped afterall?
Simple dance is simple.
That hair doesn't really suit Minami.
Haruna is super cute.
I'm sorry but I can't be the only one who thinks Minami looks like a pumpkin.
Haruna looks gorgeous with that hair.

Berryz Koubou-Lady Gaga ni Narou ka?

The PV for Berryz Koubou's upcoming single, Heroine ni Narou ka, has just been uploaded to their official youtube channel.

This PV is actually really awesome. It's a lot more visually creative then your average Berryz PV. Despite this PV being basically the H!P standard dance shot and close up formula, but they've still managed to make this PV really interesting to watch. Maybe it's the Lady Gaga wigs or maybe it's the facts that there's a least an effort made to have some sort of storyline. Nah, it's probably the Lady Gaga wigs. XD But I bet Ai-chan is probably really upset though. She'd probably kill to rip off Lady Gaga's style in a PV. I actually don't really mind them getting inspiration from Lady Gaga. American and Korean artists have been copying her style for a while now. But I don't know, for that reason the PV comes off as being artsy, high quality, and cutting edge. The only complaint I really has is, I wish they focused less on the Lady Gaga outfits and more on the regular ones. The regular ones are really amazing and all the girls look super incredible in them. Especially Chinami and Yurina.

I was actually really impressed by this. It's an awesome effect.

Despite it being similar to effects Perfume uses.

I doubt the Lady Gagaish style was done by accident.

I mean a lighting bolt on the face, where have I seen that before?

Oh yeah that's right, Lady Gaga started that.

Lady Gaga never actually wore this makeup, but it does remind me of Poker Face. And by the way look how fierce Miaybi looks. *O*

Wow, Chinami's makeup is incredible.

Risako's makeup is way too big and too close to her eye, that it just comes off as awkward.

I really like the dance for this song. There are a lot of intense and exciting moves.

Awesome effect!

Ok, this move sucks. XD

Look at Risako looking all sultry and hot. I just wish the video quality was better. :/

I love this part of the dance. It reminds me of Kimagure Princess.

Momoko's the only member who looks adorable in her makeup instead of high fashion. XD

Woah, look at Saki bringing it.

And now everyone is sad for some reason.

Even acting sad Chinami looks gorgeous.

This dance moves always impresses me. I think Berryz has done this before, but I can't remember. I know NEWS has. XD
